Wonder Woman Tv show? Right on.

by Jeremy on Jan.26, 2011, under Blog

The fact that it’s going to be on NBC scares me a little. Aside from comedy (it’s not going to be a comedy right?) I don’t think the station has a lot to offer by way of good tv watching (which is weird because their sister companies like USA and Syfy often do draw my viewership).

McG as director (the rumor o the day) for the pilot freaks me out a bit. I love the guy as a producer (Nikita, Supernatura,l a bevy of others) and I remember thinking his slick, cartoony style was innovative at the time of Charlie’s Angels, or the first episode of Fastlane (now available on Netflix, though I’m not sure how it holds up anymore), but after the debacle that was the last Terminator movie I don’t know if the guy has the chops (hoping he proves me wrong)!

What I’m really interested in, however, is David E. Kelley’s take on the character.

I am an unabashed David E. Kelley fan. I couldn’t agree less with his politics and often his shows kind of degrade into political monologues, but there is a romanticism about his stories that I find haunting, endearing and always bring me back for more.

After hearing a Robert Downey Jr. song at the end of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (video below) I was curious about where else the actor has sung, and lo and behold I found out that he had showed up for a couple of seasons on Ally Mcbeal.

A bittorrent later (this was pre DVD of Mcbeal who’s music costs were so prohibitive that the show was unlikely to see the light of day - though it’s out now!) I began my trek into the world of David E. Kelly.

McBeal led to Boston legal and then I backtracked to watch the trans formative season of seriousness to silliness that was the last couple of years of the Practice as they introduced James Spader and William Shatner to the mix.

All of this to say that David E. Kelley is a GOOD writer. He deals with socio-economic stories with a deft hand and I can’t believe that his take on Princess Diana, the ambassador from Themyscira won’t have those themes as well.

Here’s to hoping, but regardless I’m excited.

1-25-11 The Mechanic. No, not the movie

by Jeremy on Jan.25, 2011, under Blog

My car broke last week.
Broke, shut down, rolled over and died.
It was the Battery and the Alternator, and because I know nothing about cars they “suggested” that I get a tune up, and some hoses replaced.

“Tune up” and “hoses” are phrases that probably sound a lot like “headache” and “stomach ache” to a mother. The two things that can’t be tested with a thermometer, but could possibly be true. These are words that I used to stay home from school, and for some reason i felt like the Mechanic was telling me this in order to “hose” me for more money.

But what can you do? I had barely gotten my car there, and I don’t know of any other trusted mechanic within reach, so…

800 dollars later my car is fixed. Or so I thought.
As I left the mechanic I heard a strange buzzing in the radio, a glug glug sound as I pushed the accelerator and last night when I stopped the car the power went out on everything.
I took it back this morning and dropped it off. They were a bit shamefaced, as they should be.

I hadn’t heard back since noon so I gave them a call. They said they THINK it’s a “short” and would I mind bringing my keys back because they can’t stop the alarm.
I can’t. I’m in Malibu, but already they are setting it up so that they can charge me for the problem that I brought it in for in the first place.

All this to say that I am really having a hard time being “content in all things…” at the moment. There is great joy in my life, great opportunities, but how quickly does it all get stolen because of something so lame. So trivial.

I am trusting that God is still on his throne, has my back and is taking care of business.

That’s all I CAN do.

*sigh*

Sick all week. Bleh 1-24-11

by Jeremy on Jan.24, 2011, under Blog

Is it bad of me that I don’t mind being sick during the week? But the weekend! I say thee NAY!

Thus, Friday I was stricken with some sort of head cold. And though I drank enough water to keep us in a drought for decades I still felt like my head was full of cotton balls.

Still, my wife and I tried to make the best of it, laying low and watching Prison Break while on Sunday going out after church to celebrate all the AMAZING things that are going on in our lives at Grandma’s house (aka Ruth Chris’s).

I’m a writer

by Jeremy on Jan.20, 2011, under Blog

Go figure.
A lot of God stuff going on in my life that is blowing me away. The first of which is that I got a job writing episode 17 of the upcoming Green Lantern Animated Series for Cartoon Network.
To say that I am excited is truly an understatement. I wear adult diapers daily now because sometimes my excitement shows itself in the most embarrassing of ways.
I of course will keep you updated (probably more on twitter than here) as best I can.
It’s an exciting adventure!!!
