Remember when you were a kid… Wait, strike that. If you happen to be near, or a little over 30, remember when you were a kid and there were only SO MANY shows that were on the air? We all seemed to have seen the same episodes of Brady Bunch or Gilligan’s Island, not to mention the social connectedness that came from the shared experience that was Saturday Morning Cartoons.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I’m going to write a review of Indiana Jones IV.

I’m going to use lots and lots of spoilers and then I’m going to be really really critical.

The only note before going any further is that I DO believe that art is almost always subjective. It can be argued only about as far as trying to convince you that your favorite ice cream flavor is NOT your favorite ice cream flavor (which is Vanilla in case you were thinking it was something else).

I’ve said it in the vlog below but I didn’t like this new Indiana Jones movie. I’ve spent the day fielding geek dialogue between myself and a few other of the clan de Nerd that DO like the flick so I thought I’d just write down my thoughts, if only to look back years from now and laugh and my strange cynical attitude.

Beauty and the Geek - this years crap.

Beauty and the Geek is one of those “this can’t be good” shows that really IS good. I don’t mean good like “Oh this is entertaining (which it is)” I mean good in the moral sense of the word. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s basically a reality version of most 80’s John Hughes movies. It’s the Breakfast club without the pesky jocks or stoners. It’s 16 candles but Anthony Michael Hall being stuck in a room with Molly Ringwald for the duration, It’s Pretty in Pink as it’s supposed to be (with Ducky winning the girl)… (continue reading…)
