10/26/10 Blog Entry: Waiting for the shoe to drop

by Jeremy on Aug.26, 2010, under Blog, Politics

My thoughts as of late.

Somewhere in my thirty some odd years upon this planet earth I became afraid.

I can’t pinpoint exactly where that happened, but I know it did. Growing up my friends and I would engage in feats of lunacy, that to this day when described to others gets a eye roll of disbelief.

As a toddler it was as simple as making bows and arrows, shooting them at friends, escalating to jumping our lined up friends with our BMX bikes, to molotov cocktails, trying to cow tip with a car, rappelling of the stadium in college and an assortment other things.

Then I moved to L.A.. I don’t know if it was the climate, the sheer alieness of being who I was in a town that was completely NOT who I am. Rejection, rejection and more rejection. I don’t know. But I started being afraid.

Palin Vs. Obama

by Jeremy on Sep.04, 2008, under Politics

People are wondering what I thought about Palin’s speech last night.

Well, lyrics to Billy Joel’s “Stiletto” come to mind. Either that or “hurts so good” by John Cougar Mellencamp. Man she was stabbing with a smile, wonderful.

I’m saying it now…she will be the first female president. Mark. My. Word.s

Questioning Obama

by Jeremy on Mar.05, 2008, under Politics

A Princeton student writes an amazing open letter to Senator Obama

“You have asked me to vote for you. In turn, may I ask you three simple questions? They are straightforward questions of fact about abortion. They are at the heart of the debate. In fairness, I believe that you owe the people you would lead a good-faith answer to each:

1. The heart whose beating is stilled in every abortion — is it a human heart?

2. The tiny limbs torn by the abortionist’s scalpel — are they human limbs?

3. The blood that flows from the fetus’s veins — is it human blood?”

Why the World Stage is a lot like the New York Times.

I’ve been watching the “Maverick” Senator from Arizona make his Patton like March toward the presumed nomination for the Republican Party over the past couple of weeks. And though some would liken his forward momentum on the Straight talk express similar to an addictive gamblers first win, or the reliability of a snowball careening down a hill (after it’d been pushed for years and years UP one) I’d more likely refer to it as the title of Meatloafs most beloved album - Bat out of Hell.
