Ok, here’s one of my reasonable Christmas wishes done

by Jeremy on Dec.05, 2005, under Story Time

Okay Okay, here it is. Did it on the fly so don’t beat me up about the rhyme scheme too much.

My Christmas

Twas a day in LA.
The sun was out and about
I wondered what a “twas” was?
Before I heard the shout

It was a man selling things
With Xmas on his store
And I became annoyed
“Is this what Christmas was for?”

People yelling and fighting
over the Yuletide season
commercialism and greed
becoming the new reason

“Ack” I cried!
“it’s all changed so much!”
“Where’s the joy and the peace?”
”Where’s carols and such?”

Ah yes I remembered
Someone thought it was bad
To talk about God
Or some baby Mary had

Santa Clause was gone
“He’s a Saint’ they would say
“It’s now about commerce”
Or is it just another day.

I was down in the dumps
Christmas cheer down the drain
Then I saw a boy
Staring wide eyed at a train

It was red and it was sleek
Sitting on a plastic track
This boy just stared
As if the train stared back

“It’s what he wanted”
I thought “Underneath his tree”
He didn’t think about the negative
the cost, or that it wasn’t free

No, he saw Jesus
Along with Saint Nick
He sang about Rudolph
As the tree lights were lit

He didn’t care
that some have looked away
From the meaning in Christmas
That’s changed because they say

No Christmas was his
Frosty and all
He believed in the magic
Of the boy in the stall

He parump a pum pum pumped
With the little drummer boy
And sang the old carols
With words full of joy

I looked at the kid
Thoughts swirling in my head
It wasn’t about what others saw
Or the lines I was fed

Christmas was here
I could see it all around
The toys and the smells
And Frowns turned upside down

So put aside all of that Gabbing
from the political ilk
And set out a plate For Santa’s Cookies
and a cup for his milk

Smile when you stare
At the winter stars above
And think about God’s presence
In that little boy that he loved

Laugh a little bit more
And smile even wider
Eat a bit too much
Drink some of that cider

For Christmas is what you make it
Not what they say it is
It’s for the adults as much
As it’s for the kids

Find a something you can stare at
Smiling with glee
And I hope your Christmas is as fun for you
as it is
for me

I hope that poem didn’t take all day,
    for, my friend, it was NO screen play;

    The time is drawing near,
    and wedding bells we’ll hear;

If what you’ve written isn’t done well,
    You could find yourself in a living hell;

So put on your thinking cap,
and make the keyboard go “tap, tap tap!”
