Just as the absurdly good Summer Season reaches its end (ie: all of the USA networks programming), we find ourselves bracing for the new fall season of the prime time shows that we know and love. Below is a list of all that I’m following.

Thursday, September 9
The Vampire Diaries - The CW - A show that should not be as good as it is. Fantastically violent and insanely plotted, moves like lightning.

Nikita - The CW- I’ve followed every iteration of the series, why stop now. I’ll check out the first couple of eps.

Monday, September 13
Gossip Girl - The CW - what do I need to say

Monday, September 20
Castle - ABC - Fillion rules, women drool
Hawaii Five-O - CBS- I’ve been waiting for Scott Caan to show up anywhere, and well…this might be good for an episode or two.

Chuck - NBC- Probably the last season. It speaks to every piece of me.

Tuesday, September 21
Glee - Fox - Don’t stop believin it’s a great show.

Wednesday, September 22
Undercovers - NBC - wasn’t interested, then saw the promos. Very interested now. Looks well acted and funny.

Thursday, September 23
Grey’s Anatomy - ABC- I saw the finale and %#$@$

Fringe - Fox - speaking of finale’s. What’s going to happen now? This show has gone into sci fi adventure. Love it.

Friday, September 24
Human Target - Fox - Probably my favorite new show of last year, especially when they get into the nitty gritty over arching arc. Mark Valley as Christopher Chance is the square jawed hero I’ve been missing.

The Good Guys - Fox - what’s your nombre hombre.

Smallville - The CW- Last season, that means there will be flights and tights and possibly Apokolips…rad.

Supernatural - The CW- Remember how I said Human Target was my favorite new show? This is just my favorite show. Incredible.

Tuesday, September 28
No Ordinary Family - ABC - sure I’ll see the fantastic four rip off through an episode or two just to support my geeky interests on TV. But beyond that if it doesn’t get good, I’m gone.

My thoughts as of late.

Somewhere in my thirty some odd years upon this planet earth I became afraid.

I can’t pinpoint exactly where that happened, but I know it did. Growing up my friends and I would engage in feats of lunacy, that to this day when described to others gets a eye roll of disbelief.

As a toddler it was as simple as making bows and arrows, shooting them at friends, escalating to jumping our lined up friends with our BMX bikes, to molotov cocktails, trying to cow tip with a car, rappelling of the stadium in college and an assortment other things.

Then I moved to L.A.. I don’t know if it was the climate, the sheer alieness of being who I was in a town that was completely NOT who I am. Rejection, rejection and more rejection. I don’t know. But I started being afraid.

Afraid to try hard, to work hard, to be creative for being creatives sake. And when good things happen to me, or potentially good things were GOING to happen to me, I tend to downplay it and get amazingly sullen at the prospect. Why? Because in my heart of hearts I don’t actually think the Good is going to happen. I keep wondering when the other shoe is going to drop.

Where’d that come from? When did I start believing that?
What’s worse than that embrace of fear. The dance I do with doubt, is that I tend to not care about the inevitable failure. It’s been with me so long I just roll with it and continue to move on.

The phrase “Waiting for the shoe to drop” supposedly comes from this story.

A man comes in late at night to a lodging house, rather the worse for wear. He sits on his bed, drags one shoe off and drops it on the floor. Guiltily remembering everyone around him trying to sleep, he takes the other one off much more carefully and quietly puts in on the floor. He then finishes undressing and gets into bed. Just as he is drifting off to sleep, a shout comes from the man in the room below: “Well, drop the other one then! I can’t sleep, waiting for you to drop the other shoe!”

It’s all about the expectation. The return to normalcy, and maybe my paranoid brain expects the usual and humdrum, while my heart and eyes have other plans. So there is a disparity between my heart and mind, a civil war in my person where my whole body is a victim.

It needs to end. There are people in my life that need me to not be afraid, to dream big, and to expect those dreams to be accomplished. I have to have that faith that my God has got my back and my front, sides etc and he wants good things for me. I KNOW this to be true, I just have to start believing it (that is a much harder task).

Thank goodness that I can look at myself in the mirror and recognize I am a work in progress, not yet finished, still figuring it all out and often times have more questions than answers.

When I realize that no one is really asking me to be perfect, then the fear of being perfect is lessened.

Now back to the regularly scheduled trying.

I remember watching the Cosby Show fairly religiously. I think my generation (X if you must know) was probably one of the first ones that had no idea there was a difference between races until some idiot tried to tell us there was. To this day it boggles my mind that people take a pigment of skin and say that makes one person better or less than, than say another person..but I digress (judge by the content of character people) - The Cosby show was the family that everyone wanted to be a part of. I did at least (I still love my family, but Rudy is just so darn funny!).

I was putting together a little video for my wife last night and I came upon “Theo’s Holiday” . I had forgotton how flippin hilarious it is.

Remember this episode? Theo thinks he has it all figured out when it comes to finances until his family puts him to the test. Check out part one, if you get hooked like I was, part 2 and 3 are on youtube.

So I’ve been noticing an uptick in a lot of Geek inspired music lately, whether it’s TROCK (time lord rock) or Wrock (wizard rock) all seemingly under the umbrella of Nerdcore (at least I think it is, and what “I” think is generally considered law in these parts.)
This stuff CALLS to me. Maybe I’ll try my inept musical hand at something like this, but probably not.

Meanwhile below are my top 5 Nerdcore/trock/wrock songs.

TNG by Sci Fried

ACCIO DEATHLY HALLOWS - by John Green
