Remember when you were a kid… Wait, strike that. If you happen to be near, or a little over 30, remember when you were a kid and there were only SO MANY shows that were on the air? We all seemed to have seen the same episodes of Brady Bunch or Gilligan’s Island, not to mention the social connectedness that came from the shared experience that was Saturday Morning Cartoons.

“Did you see “Tiger Sharks”? Dude that was Rad!”

And of course they had, because there was a limited quantity of shows to watch and we all were kind of on a unified front when it came to pop culture references.

(P.S. - I remembered when the cartoon’s would transition to live action shows and I’d dread it because OH man that meant it was time to do my Mom’s assigned slave like chores)

Now we’ve got whole channels dedicated to Cartoons. Those references that we spouted from our youth fall on the deaf ears of the new video-on-demand generation. No longer does anyone understand the profundity of the debate on who is hotter, Ginger or Mary-Anne (leave your vote below).

It was a charmed time.

Now…now there is SO much to watch and you have to pick and choose, and not even I, the man who’s seen more than you (that’s my Native American name) can’t watch it all. So Below, the list of shows I wonder about renting and watching and if they are any good at all.

Beauty and the Beast - the fairy tale updated with Hellboy (Ron Perlman) and Sarah Connor (linda Hamilton), taking place in Los Angeles. It all looks very EMO to me but I’ve heard some people swear by it.

Photobucket

Total Recall 2070 - TV.com says “Detective David Hume and his android partner Ian Farve investigate crimes in the year 2070″….soooo it has nothing to do with the Ahnuld flick that kicked major sci fi buttocks??? Hmmm maybe I don’t care about this one. Moving on.

Photobucket

Star Trek Deep Space Nine - I know I know, how could I have not seen this? No clue. I have seen some of the first season and then I disappeared to the andes for my extensive Ninja training. I’ve been told by trekkie and non trekkie alike that the show is Amazing going from action to political intrigue seamlessly. I really need to see this.

Photobucket

Dead Zone - based on the coolio movie starring the weird Christopher Walken, but now replaced by 80’s geek Anthony Michael Hall. So essentially he can see the life of people he touches. He’s psychic…conflict ensues. Hmmm

Photobucket

Red Dwarf - why? Cuz it looks freakin weird. It sounds like it’s about a dude that wakes up on a ship thousands of years later with his cat who has evolved into a humanoid like cat. See!? I told you that sounded weird.

Photobucket

Andromeda - Sci fi syndicated show starring hercules (how he got into space I’ll never know). But it went on for a few years so that has to be an indicator of some type of “good” right? (at this point you are going to point out that Charmed went on for 8 years…and I HAVE SEEN EVERY AWFUL EPISODE!)

Photobucket

The Sentinel. - “In the jungles of Peru, the fight for survival heightened his senses. Now, Detective Jim Ellison is a sentinel in the fight for justice.”" Never saw it, but a guy with heightened senses, that’s cool right? A lightweight Wolverine maybe?

Photobucket

Dark Shadows - Whispered with awe by some of my Geek Elders. What the crack is it? It’s a Dracula soap opera?! Ooohh it supposedly has a bunch of other monsters too…this was a daytime soap opera, really?

Photobucket

Robobcop the Tv Series - Another series based off a great Paul Verhoeven movie (see Total Recall 2070). Robocop was one of those “life changing” viewing experience. I don’t think I had ever been subjected to so much overt violence before in my young life until Ed 209 went nuts and blew apart the corporate extra (good times good times). So a show with the cyborg cop, complete with automatic pistol. Sounds good to me!

Photobucket

4400 - It was on for…I think 2 seasons. About people that had been abducted by UFO’s and have come back to earth ooooooHhhhhhh Is Mulder and Scully in it?

Photobucket

Outer Limits - Like the Twilight Zone but not as good. Never seen any of them, but curious because of the insanely good quality of the Twilight Zone, a lesser version still has to be pretty amazing.

So those are some of the shows I’m thinking of diving into. Any of them you’ve seen? And if so, any of them you recommend me watching?

Red Dwarf is a good show and worth watching, especially the first three or four series. There are some classic Outer Limits episodes, like “Demon with a Glass Hand” and “I, Robot” that you should check out. The second season of “Beauty and the Beast” (without Linda Hamilton) was better than the first- it was more “action” oriented.
There is no need for you to check out the other series you mention.

Also, a show you should definitely watch if you haven’t already is “The Prisoner” with Patrick McGoohan. A really fantastic show with multiple layers. Only 17 episodes I think, and maybe 14 of them are totally brilliant. Watch them in order, though.
It’s sort of a progenitor of “Burn Notice,” another good show you should watch.

I had seen a couple of episodes of “the Prisoner” in college and in fact I’ve been going through them now, got one disc left. Very very trippy and yet for the time extremely innovative. Thanks for the heads up!

Dude. I’ve been telling you to watch Red Dwarf for YEARS. It’s so freakin’ good. I have the entire series. I should send it to you and make you watch it if you don’t commence to watching.

Beauty and the Beast… emo galore, you’ll love it.

Deep Space Nine… seriously… dude.

Dead Zone.. me and amanda watched the first couple seasons and it seemed to really just keep rehashing the same thing over and over. My mom loves it though.

4400 got pretty lame after Heroes came out.

Sentinel had its moments.

Andromeda was ehhhhh alright.

Dark Shadows is..yeah.. skip it.

Oh.. and remember when ABC used to like preview all the new saturday cartoons for the season on Friday night. Oh man it was like christmas.
