Did I watch the Oscars?

No…No I didn’t.

I haven’t for awhile now. I just began to realize that I honestly don’t like MOST of the movies that are nominated for the Oscars.

I find it to be entirely political, masochistically long, a podium for the bloviating bourgeoisie to pontificate on whatever ails their tiny brain.

Yes I know that in that sentence itself I make fun of and yet become elitist.

No, it just seems to be lacking in “class” in my eye. Most of the time “stars” don’t come to the oscars unless they are nominated OR if they have a movie coming out. So it’s not like it’s a peer supported award show.

Plus, I’ve worked for several producers and I KNOW that the majority of them never acutally see the films. It’s all about who advertises it better half the time.

Bah, I’ve turned jaded.

Here’s how I think they can make the awards show better.

1) Pithy dialogues - delete them. The fact is this is a high society gathering, bad comedy does not make the event shinier, it places it somewhere around the MTV movie awards.

2) Sound editing, sound mixing, combine it, or put it in with the technical awards. The massed don’t know the difference and really shouldn’ t have to. Heck both of those need to go or put under the umbrella of “editing” all together.

3) this SHOW should take 2 hours tops, so take out commercials. Raise the ad price, and lower the amount of ads. The length is inevitably makes the show unbearable.

4) Life time achievement awards. ONE. there should be ONE. I remember one year there was something like 3 awards under different names. Eff that. One non academy award and walk away.

5) Musical numbers, one big medley, we don’t need to hear all the songs AGAIN, the vote is over, it’s not like we watch all the MOVIES again, so why the songs.

Seriously when you think about how much “filler” is in the show it is nauseating. Academy just follow these steps and you might find the Academy Awards becoming a ratings grabber instead of the in the cellar viewership you have now.

Thanks for the post. Yup - the oscars did suck again this year. Nothing funny, lame jokes - the only reason I watched was because i was invited to an oscar party. I didn’t even stay the whole time and left early… somewhere between sound editing and sound mixing. Loved your post… you should write a note to the academy. If it were up to me, I’d make the Oscars like the Golden Globes were this year. 20 minutes long. :)

Hey, if I’m not in it, I don’t want to watch it… :P

I quit watching it too. I can just view the outfits online the next day.

Your point about replaying the songs was MUCH funnier than any of the jokes they tell.

Hmmm… it’s been, what? 18 years since I last heard “bourgeoisie.”

Sorry, I got distracted. Nope, I don’t watch the show either.
