X-JAPAN by Kichi (el *snicker*) …and no, it’s not a group of mutants

Hello true believers and welcome to another exciting installment of the Japanese Music Video of the Week! As always, I’m waiting for suggestions, but until one comes, here’s this week’s video.

Alright, so maybe I’m a little swayed by the fact that I’m a huge anime and X-Japan fan. Maybe. But the fact remains that both this music video and this band are awesome. So a little bit on X-Japan first. X-Japan (originally “X”) was a Japanese metal band formed in the early 80s. Influenced by numerous sources such as Iron Maiden, Kiss, and the like, the band was a huge success and sold over twenty million albums and singles. They broke up after lead singer Toshi left in 1997 and although there was some speculation that perhaps they would reform, the death of lead guitarist hide (spelled lowercase) dashed any hopes of X-Japan’s return. Recently however, Yoshiki, X-Japan’s drummer and pianist, has announced plans to reunite the remaining members of X-Japan.
X-Japan is seriously one of my most favorite bands ever. With a main focus on ballads, X-Japan also has some excellent heavy and thrash metal songs. Rusty Nail is a little softer than most of their heavy songs and a little louder than most of their ballads, but is an excellent balance between the two. The vocals really make it for this song so listen up. No subtitles, sorry, but still is amazing. Once again, this is the official music video for Rusty Nail, not a fan thing, which is what makes it so cool. Not many bands do anime music videos. Go find a picture of X-Japan (old-school not new conservative) and see if you can name all the band members in the video (here’s a hint: hide’s the one with pink hair!). Without further ado: X-Japan’s Rusty Nail
