I honestly don’t think that I could go a whole day without posting something…anything.
I’m in pain. Ultimate frisbee has caused me to be sore all over my body. Evidently the bible study guys felt the same way. We spent a fair amount of time lamenting joyfully about our aching bodies. We’ve decided that it needs to happen more, the playing of the frisbee de ultimate that is.
Something to look forward to.
My friend Christina informed me of something that she has been a part of some time that sounds absolutely fantastic. It’s called “War”.
No, not like that…here’s what she says…
“So I realize a lot of my friends really have no clue what I’ve been babbling about. It’s an event in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a Medieval and Rennaisance re-creation society. Basically we have people from all over the world come together for a War between our representative kingdoms. It’s a camping event for almost a week. There’s combat (rapier fencing (live steel), armored fighting (called hardsuit, were people beat on each other with weapons made of rattan), archery, siege engines - in single person tourneys and battlefield scenarios. There’s also arts and sciences where people teach classes on different crafts and also enter their projects in exhibits and contests (everything from costume making, utensils, furniture, scrolls, cooking, performances (dance, singing, music, bardic tales) and much more). At the end the kingdom with the most points from combat and arts and sciences wins the war (and the most volunteer hours). There’s also merchants with booths where you can shop for items, materials, and references. It’s very social with different meetings and parties going on. That’s a very, very basic nutshell.”
Ummm, one word - YES!!
How great does that sound?
I remember back in High School my buddies and I would mock the SCA for wearing armor. WE, you see, were too tough for armor and of course we have the scars and brain damage to prove it! But that sounds like a blast honestly.
Still one of my bosses is out today and I should take some of the time today to do something constructive like write…but darn you internet! You are so much fun to surf through!
