“Why? Why do humans always look to the sky? Why do you try so hard to fly when you don’t have any wings? We’ll run on our own legs.”
- Kiba
From Bones, the studio known for such works as Fullmetal Alchemist, Wolf’s Rain is similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion if Neon Genesis Evangelion was based on a pagan theology instead of the Bible, had wolves instead of giant robots, and was based on the past more than the future. Okay, maybe they aren’t that similar… But they are both set in post-apocolyptic futures.

In any case, Wolf’s Rain is set in the distant future where a group known as the Nobles have become rulers of the land and live in more of futuristic society while everyone else lives in the slums. Although this show does have lasers and all that, its focal point is more on nature and the past. This anime is centered on a pack of wolves who are trying to find “Paradise” which will also cause the end of the world, but no one seems to care until the end. The wolves use illusions to appear as humans throughout the story although at certain times, it is possible to see through their guise (i.e. drunk, dying, generally having vision problems).

The show displays themes of maturation and rebirth similar that are reminiscent of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the soundtrack, composed mainly by Yoko Kanno, is somewhat like Phil Collins’ voice combined with Japanese poetic lyrics, equaling awesome. Be sure to see it through to the end, no matter how sad it gets. Definitely one of my favorite animes now and a must see.

Hmmm..okay I may still this from you some night…after I get through the other stuff you’ve left at my doorstep.
Steal or still?
I have no idea what this said. Not a clue.

By the way, it should read “displays themes of maturation and rebirth that are reminiscent”. I had originally put similar to and forgot to take it out.
