weekend wrap up

Friday night Blackjack, Stargatechick and I rambled from the church to west Hollywood to support a singer/songwriter at a “club”. The last time I went to a club was like, ….ehhh…college…maybe? Plus I had just come from work so I was woefully underdressed and feeling amazingly self conscious.

But it wasn’t about me…remember? Ok, “I” had to remember, I get caught up in my own world.

So it went well, cool to see people perform, smiling, singing etc.

El had his birthday party on Saturday. Young men and women gathering together to jump in the pool and spend many a mind numbing hour playing Halo while shouting out “N00b” and “Your Mom” at varying intervals. Never mind that he HAD girls at his party! At the age of 13 I don’t think I realized that there was a difference between men and women, though my health classes tried to convince me otherwise. I would just read the teachers lips thinking the entire time “say what you will, cooties are real dude, and I. Ain’t. Getting em!”

One of our kicker reviewers Slater ended up leaving early due to a fracture in the foot. And really what type of party would it have been if no one was sent to the hospital? It’s a rite of passage for the male adolescence. El is home today because his Pop wrestled him and he smashed his foot against something….ahhh the pains of wrestling how I miss thee.

I did bring out my shock game, which I after 5 games I quit. These kids today are faster models man! My hand was numb due to the lack of reflexes from this old codger! They laughed gleefully at my grimace as I was shocked over and over and over.

Sunday Johnny Martini and I did a movie fest. 3 of them, and honestly I thought all were pretty mediocre. I was hoping for grandeur, I got amusement.

Corpse Bride = not as fun as nightmare before Christmas, and actually a bit too dark.

Elizabethtown = moments of a good movie, but Orlando Bloom is of that “I can’t emote” school of acting. I can’t tell if he’s sad/happy/mad or whatever. MOVE YOUR LIPS ORLANDO…MOOVVVVE…YOUUUURRR…LIPPPPSS!!

History of Violence = like all Cronenberg movies, NOT for the masses. Explicit sex (needless mind you) and violence (not needless) wrapped up in a plot that I swear I’ve seen, or read before. I had heard good things but it left me cold. Of course this was at 10:30 last night, so I’m usually in bed by that time, that might have had some sort of effect on my viewing, but I’m not planning on seeing it again to find out if that is the case.

Monday it’s raining like crazy here, which means that I’m going to curl up in bed tonight and read and watch movies.

This is a preview not a review but since there isnt a category for Preview, what ya gonna do. This is one of the games I am looking forward to the most. My GF is looking forward to it more than I am though. She played the hellllllllllll out of Morrowind. Anyway.. it got delayed a bit so that sucks, but it should still be out before the year is up. Can’t wait to open the doors to Oblivion!
